Garden & Meadow update

Meadow

The meadow near the Beckenham Hill Train Station Gate is looking and smelling really good right now. Musk Mallow, Field Scabious, Hedge Bedstraw and Ladies Bedstraw are in flower. Every summer since this meadow was sown it has been slightly different. Head down on a sunny day to see hornets and dragonflies hunting the other insects that are drawn to  the nectar rich flowers. Most of the meadow is cut once a year at the end of the summer by a local farmer with his massive tractor. We leave about a third uncut as a refuge for wildlife.

Garden

The garden by the homestead and playground is absolutely full of flowers this time of year. Lavender, hollyhocks, verbascum and echinacea are looking good this week.
